Private parking and shared use of the pool.Take the coast road towards Spain from the busy sandy beaches and holiday developments of Argeles and you enter another world. As the mountains come down to meet the sea with vine terraces on the steep slopes most signs of modern life disappear. First you pass the timeless harbour of Collioure with its red stone fortress and palm lined seafront, then Port Vendres with its colourful fishing boats overlooked by the old town. The road winds around the hills and you drop down to Cerbere, a semi circle of beach, a small fishing and pleasure port encircled by the old town. This is the French Riviera as it was 80 years ago and thanks to the area being designated a conservation priority little will change. The apartment is only a short walk from the centre but on the slope above the town so that in the height of Summer the sea breeze will keep you comfortable. The water is clear and rich in fish, partially thanks to the designation of a large area as a natural reserve protected from fishing. Diving is excellent and there are local centres which will hire squab gear for the more adventurous. The Spanish boarder is just a few miles further South with a similar rocky coastline before reaching the huge sandy bay of Roses. The vibrant city of Barcelona is within easy reach for a day trip. There is excellent walking throughout the year in the Alberes hills or higher in the Pyrenees around the Canigou massif. Flora and fauna range from Mediterranean to Alpine within a few kilometres. You can easily be walking at over 2000m in the morning and swimming in the sea later that day! The ski resorts towards Font Romeu and Andorra are easily accessible. Perpignan and Gerona (an hour into Spain) airports offer good connections with the UK and many international destinations (particularly Gerona).
