This charming little house, situated at the top of one of the most picturesque villages in this area, has a lovely view across the valley and right down to the sea. Brightly renovated a few years ago, with a new kitchen, it would be ideal for a small family as a holiday home, or as a permanent home for a couple. Only 50 km from the nearest Mediterranean beaches.
The house is situated on the edge of the village on a small road which only leads to the first slopes of the Canigou mountain. With no houses opposite, it doesn’t have the closed in feeling that village houses on narrow streets have. The back of the house faces east to get the morning sunshine and has a view right down the valley to the sea, and across towards the mountains of the Vallespir. The front of the house has views of the hillside with an ancient signal tower just above. The accommodation consists of a large sitting room, with double doors to the street and a flue for a wood burning stove. Archway access to a roomy kitchen with a double door to a small balcony, new fitted kitchen and space for a dining table. Stairs from the kitchen to the first floor with two bedrooms, one of which is open plan and has access to the shower room, the other bedroom has a French windows with a balcony rail. This room is very high and there is scope for a mezzanine. Wiring is already in place for this. Steps lead down from the kitchen to the cellar which has two rooms. One part is in its original state and has an earth floor. The other part, nearest the stairs, has been concreted and its walls rendered and there is plumbing for a washing machine. A door leads to a tiny, partly fenced garden area with space for table and chairs. This may have a decking terrace from this spring onwards. At the front of the house there is a small area of concreted pavement that also belongs to the house with enough space for a small table and chairs. Perched on the side of a gorge, on the slopes of the Canigou, Corsavy is a mountain village with the advantage of being only 10 minutes from the nearest small town, making it less isolated than most mountain villages in this area, and the road to it, although windy in places, is wider than most mountain roads. This makes access to the village relatively easy and stress free. The village is in the sunshine all day, even in the winter and is relatively warm for its altitude, although the evening freshness is very welcome in the summer months when the days are very hot. The views from the main part of the village are breathtaking. The nearest village for small shops is Arles sur Tech, 10 minutes drive, which also has primary and secondary schools. Céret is just under half an hour for supermarkets, administrative tasks etc. The nearest Mediterranean beaches are at Argelés Plage which is about 50 minutes drive, with the picturesque ports of Collioure and Port-Vendres just a little further. The valley of the river Tech, stretching from Prats de Mollo, a charming little market town near the Spanish border, down to Céret, is known as the Vallespir. One of the most beautiful valleys of the department it has the advantage of being very accessible both on foot and in the car. From Corsavy you can set off on foot and walk all day in the mountains, often without meeting another person! The relatively low altitudes and the proximity to the sea keep the temperature agreeable all year round. Corsavy itself gets almost no snow most years although it is often on the mountains above.
