A chance to own a lovely detached village house in one of the most sought after villages in the area that has a secret past!! in 1906 the local women of the village wrote to the Prefecture complaining that this was (putting it politely ) a house of ill repute and that the 'lady' that lived there was luring their sons and husbands away from their work. The owners have a copy of the original letter. |
Very doubtful though if anything of that sort goes on nowadays in this great French village in the Creuse Valley. there is a bar, bakery and post office though, plus a big surprise if you look in the church next door!! In a quiet corner next to the church, this detached house has all you need to start a new life in France or have a holiday home/Gite you can enjoy with the minimum of maintenance. There is a lovely low maintenance cottage garden to the front of the property and a courtyard to the side with a Gazebo ideal for sitting out or dining under in the evening. To the left of the property you have access to a little secluded park to the rear of the house. This was once part of the large property and according to the owners is very seldom used so you have a lovely open space which you don't have to mow! You enter into a hallway with a living room to the left and the kitchen to the right, this has been completely redone with fitted units, double sink and Smeg stainless steel hob and extractor. From here there is a further room currently used as a utility room with sink and plumbing for washer. Off here is the shower room and seperate W.C. Double glazed French doors lead to the garden. Up the original oak staircase we have a landing with W.C. off. Two double bedrooms both with original fireplaces complete this floor. Up a further staircase there is a useful attic which could be converted to living accommodation. This village is a very popular location set in the Valley of the Creuse only ten minutes from Argenton Sur Creuse where you will find schools shops and most other services. Chateauroux.is about 20mins up the A20 Auto route. 2.5 hrs to Paris. 6 to Calais and about an hour from Limoges airport. The Area is very beautiful and there is a wealth of activities in the area, you can stroll a few hundred metres down the road to the swimming beach on the Creuse, or go fishing. Lake Chambon with all other water sports is a short drive away where there are beaches, lakeside bars and restaurants. there is a vast network of bridlepaths in the area which are ideal for riding walking or mountain biking. Or just stroll around the local markets and some of the most beautiful villages in France.
