Nancy Wood, Independent Agent, says: | This two bedroom village house is a real charmer and is perfect as a holiday home. There's a lot packed into it for the price, including a terrace, garden room, laundry room, wood shed and 2 bathrooms.
| The house is sympathetically renovated to retain much of its original character. Notwithstanding its compact size, there's a real sense of space, no doubt a factor of its brightness.
Situated at the end of a quite lane, one enters through the garden room, a sort of indoor/outdoor room. You really get the sense of going back in time as soon as you walk into this room. This room also acts as an entrance hall off which is one of the bedrooms, with ensuite shower, and from which you climb the stairs to the terrace.
Off the terrace, you enter the main living area which is a largish room which combines living room, dining area and kitchen. The 2nd bedroom and ensuite bathroom is at mezzanine level. The main room also boasts a good-looking fireplace which heats up both the lounge and 2nd bedroom and means that you can keep cosy and warm even during your winter holidays. Visible from both the kitchen and the terrace, there is an astonishingly healthy tree growing in a neighbour's courtyard. It adds something special to the property and is reminiscent, for us oldies who still remember classic films, of "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn".
The property is in the centre of a small medieval village, which lies at the wine-growing plains of the Minervois. Just a stroll down the lane and around the corner, you'll find the local café. A few minutes' walk from the house will take you out of the village for a stroll through the vineyards, or up into the wild garrigue countryside, which is typical of the area with its shrubs and bushes. The foothills of the Montagne Noire are only a few kilometres further north. The village has a post office, a general store, and a bar. There's a wider range of shops and services five kilometres to the south in the town of Olonzac, which also has an excellent market every Tuesday, selling local produce. There are a number of good restaurants within easy driving distance.
