You will, without a doubt, be charmed by this lovely character family home, which would be the perfect setting for a period drama. It nearly seems incongruous to arrive in a modern car whereas a horse carriage would certainly be more suited! Large rooms, old stone sinks and tiles, fireplaces and parquet floors, beautiful private garden with mature trees..Even the shutters and doors have always been repainted in their original colours to maintain the authenticity. This property is set in a small hamlet on a no-through lane 5 minutes by car (if you must!) from a pretty Dordogne village with all amenities, a famous restaurant and several lakes in the neighbourhood.
You enter this house either through the solid oak front door leading into the entrance hall or via French doors leading into a small sitting/games room. In both cases, an old wooden staircase takes you up to the second floor. Via the main front door, you will find to your right, the large, but cosy, living room with its old fireplace and; to your left, a good size convivial and functional but unfitted kitchen with a wood-burning oven. Behind the kitchen, are a utility room with a door onto the garden, and a storage room with toilets. From the utility room, you can access the small sitting/game room described earlier. On the second floor, 5 double light and airy bedrooms –the master bedroom, is as large as the lounge below having a fireplace and windows on both sides –a bathroom that needs modernising, and a separate toilet. The outbuildings comprise of a big garage (they had up to 3 cars in it), a hangar that holds the firewood store and a 1000 litre water tank, and another storage room with an old bread oven. The garden, of a maintainable size, is fenced all around and feels very private with its numerous mature trees. All in all, a very attractive family home with only a little updating needed in a quiet setting yet not far from shops and amenities. Price negotiable !! The Périgord, also called Dordogne, is a beautiful department of South-West France, a land of castles and bastides towns and villages dating back to the middle ages, where truffles, duck and foie gras are part of a special way of life, a must to visit.
