This is what the current owners say about the village of Esperaza, which they love so much that they are only intending to move a short distance away from - It is a quiet town apart from a Sunday which hosts a big local market and is really the highlight of the week. Whilst the town is quiet there is plenty to do in the beautiful area with, cycling, walking, riding, canoeing, rafting, sailing and skiing. The area is steeped in history, particularly the Cathars, and is awash with spectacular castles, tranquil monasteries and imposing churches. The Spanish border is 90 minutes away as is the Med. There are a number of decent and some excellent restaurants within a 6km radius. There are three bars in the town all within 150 m from the front door and the boulangeries are even nearer. Whilst Esperaza does not boast any great restaurants it does have two pizza houses, a creperie, a tiny restaurant on the square with a great atmosphere and reasonable food.
