Nancy Wood, Independent Agent, says: | | This is much better than an apartment. This little gem lets you really experience village life, not be cocooned in an apartment complex. The living area is roomy and bright as is the bedroom. And there is even a small garage where you can store your bicycle which you’ll love cycling while you discover the scenic area. | The house has been completely renovated. You will, however, need to add kitchen appliances as is typical here. There is a kitchen sink though.
The village has most amenities: a general store, boulangerie, post office and a restaurant. In addition, the bustling town of Limoux is only 5 minutes up the road and with its added proximity to Carcassonne, you will want for nothing.
Limoux is a lovely small town with a big heart in the Languedoc with the added charm of the Aude River weaving through the town. Limoux is a medieval town, renowned for the longest running carnival in the world which has been famous for more than six centuries. More than two months from mid-January to end March is taken over to Europe's most popular carnaval, a divine ode to food, music and the French joie de vivre.
Sit in one of the local cafés, sipping a Blanquette, and just let your worries flee from your mind. Hit the Friday market to sample local produce and specialties. Visit the unique Piano Museum, or Musée du Piano. For the outdoorsy types, there are myriad recreational activities to enjoy and the Pyrenees Mountains are nearby. While Blanquette is the area's claim to not-so-prominent fame, the local vintners produce wonderful chardonnays, syrahs and "Crémant de Limoux," a blend of chardonnay and chenin grapes. Limoux is in the heart of France's Cathar Country, just a few minutes from the medieval walled city of Carcassonne. It is one of the loveliest areas of France for a drive, as you pass vineyards and symmetrical rows of trees reaching atop the roads. Stop at wineries for tastings. Indulge in cassoulet, a delicious Languedoccian stew of white beans and meat.
The area is well-serviced by Carcassonne Airport (20minutes) with daily flights from England and Ireland or Toulouse International Airport (90 minutes). Fast-train service from Paris also arrives at Narbonne (1 hour) twice daily, with links to Carcassonne Station.
