The cottage is located in a charming village through which passes the Canal du Midi. One of the locks is located just on the edge of town and it is a great spot for a picnic. There are also mooring points close by. The village has a small supermarket, baker, butcher, green grocer, hairdresser, newsagent, wine cave, and post office as well as a doctor and dentist..
The village is typical of the Minervois area of France - a village clustered around its church and surrounded by vineyards. Its closeness to the Canal du Midi and the river Aude make it ideal for walking and cycling. It is 18 miles east of the medieval city of Carcassonne and 25 miles from Narbonne. Just 10 minutes from Lac Jouarres' beach where one can rent windsurfers and sailing dingies, 45 minutes to the Mediterranean beaches, 2-1/2 hours to ski resorts and 90 minutes to Spain makes this a great base for a varied holiday.
The area is well-serviced by Carcassonne Airport (25 minutes) with daily flights from England and Ireland, by Toulouse and by Montpellier International airports (both about 90 minutes). Fast-train service to and from Paris also arrives and departs at Narbonne (35 minutes) twice daily.
