The Canal du Midi is 3k away and cycle hire is available in a nearby village, which is on the adjacent Canal de la Robine. There you can visit a Patchwork centre, a roman pottery museum and even a hat museum in the area. There are 2 olive-oil mills, horse-riding, and lively markets in nearby villages. The village folks welcome visitors and most are accepted as locals, live a normal French lifestyle away from the tourists, yet have so many activities close at hand. The village is safe for older children to explore and has a small playground for the little ones, boules pitch and tennis for the adults.
3 airports served by Ryanair are within an hour's drive: Carcassonne, Montpellier and Perpignan. Ryanair also flies to Gerona - 1 h 30, and Nîmes and Toulouse are both less than 2 hours away. Motorway access to A9 and A61 nearby.
