My area is the north of the Gironde department of Aquitaine in south-west France, and has much to offer, from the grand city of Bordeaux, the Dordogne river winding through pretty villages, towards the estuary, and of course, the famous wines of the area, Bordeaux, Fronsac and Saint-Emilion,. There is a great deal for wine enthusiasts to enjoy in this region, with many of the most famous wines in the world coming from vineyards within 50 miles of Bordeaux. Many people visit the region with the sole purpose of visiting the wine chateaux and restocking their cellars!
I moved to the Gironde with my husband and four children in 2003, with the idea to become self-sufficient and enjoy an outdoor family life. We spent a lot of time in the initial months looking at areas and wonderful property, before settling on our current house, which was over budget, too big, with too much work to do – but we fell in love! Since then we have spent our time slowly, and patiently, renovating the house whilst enjoying sunshine, wine, and quality time with family and friends. With the children now adults and the house nearly completed, we look forward to exploring other beautiful areas of France and her neighbours, with our adult children able to share the responsibility of home, vegetable patch and the menagerie of animals. To quote my son ‘I am so glad we came to France’.View Aquitaine Information Homepage
