The Cher is one of the largest departments in France and it lies at the true heart of country, an appropriate location for a region which combines the best of France, history and architecture, natural beauty and wine. It encompasses the marshy forests of the Sologne to the valley of Germigny to the south with its pasture land for well fed cattle. Not to mention the prestigious vineyards of Sancerre, where you will find an excellent ‘Sauvignon’, which always delights the palate. At the centre of the Cher is its capital Bourges, dominated by the imposing cathedral of St Etienne, its cobbled streets with excellent shopping and medieval houses ,shops and restaurants in its old fshioned, antiquated area, a gentle stroll around this dignified city will supply all the history you The Jacques Coeur route through the department is the best way to take in its many chateaux, museums, religious buildings, among them the superb Citercian Abbaye de Noirlac, the château of Argent – sur- Sauldre and Mentou-Salon, a sumptious residence which was the former estate of Jacques Cœur. At Culan you will see the perfectly preserved private fortress, built between 13th & 15th centuries, with recreated medieval gardens. We live surrounded by beautiful countryside in the South Cher department of the Centre region. Fields of sunflowers surround us every summer, abundant wildlife and wonderful scenery.
The decision to move to France with my husband and young daughter ( now aged 12), back in 2005 was very easy : a better way of life, clean fresh air, warm sunshine, slower pace of life and good friends .The seasons are defined here and each one merits its own beauty and charm. After a few years of renovating our house and this year we completed our gite, which has been vey successful and our little piece of paradise has been shared with guests from every corner of the world, many who we now count as friends. We have most definately found our dream and live it each and every day. My daughter is now fluent in French, and lives life like a local. We live in a small hamlet that has a real ‘community spirit’ and any visiting friends or family all compare it to how the UK used to be about 50 years ago. I have an intimate knowledge of the area, love the locals, villages, houses and apartments. If you don’t see what yoou are looking for in my portfolio, give me a description and I can honestly say that I will find it for you.
